  • The Healix Central Pharmacy is located in Sugar Land, Texas, a suburb of Houston.

  • Each morning before compounding begins, the staff rigorously sterilizes the clean room.

  • Highly-trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians perform quality assurance testing to ensure all equipment is accurately calibrated for compounding.

  • Adhering to the most stringent USP <797> Guidelines, all staff members thoroughly sterilize themselves prior to compounding.

  • Meanwhile, other staff members prepare the necessary drugs for mixing.

  • The Healix Team compounds sterile preparations.

  • Credentialed staff compound hazardous drugs in the negative-pressure clean room, built specifically for the safe preparation of hazardous drugs.

  • Once prepared, the hazardous admixtures are clearly noted and properly stored.

  • After the drugs are compounded, they are carefully labeled and verified by our pharmacists.

  • Until the drugs are packed for shipment, they are stored in temperature-controlled refrigerators to maintain stability.

  • All shipments are sent via high priority carriers in insulated boxes with temperature gauges.

  • The receiving clinic or hospital verifies that the shipment arrives safely and in the stable temperature range.

  • Upon the initial scheduled appointment, the patient is escorted to the infusion suite where the infusion nurse conducts the admission, assessment, and medication counseling.

  • After careful review of the diagnosis, therapy selection, and patient assessment with the infusion nurse, preparation for the infusion begins.

  • The pharmacist, Pharmacist Technician, or Registered Nurse, specially trained in sterile products and admixtures, prepares the product.

  • As required, all products are appropriately prepared to meet applicable state and federal guidelines.

  • Unique to Healix CORIS solutions, the pharmacist and infusion nurse discuss the infusion medication with the patient and give counseling on the drug.

  • Next, the Registered Nurse connects the patient to the infusion mechanism and the administration begins.

  • The infusion nurse then meets with the next scheduled patient and begins the process afresh—all during the administration of any other patient and while continuously monitoring each for safety and optimal clinical outcomes.

  • After each patient’s initial infusion, a Patient Satisfaction Survey is conducted. The infusion nurse ensures that patients have an anonymous opportunity to give feedback on their infusion center experience.

  • In conclusion, the infusion nurse and pharmacist (as a part of the CORIS—Pharmacy Solution) capture all data surrounding each infusion patient’s visit, medication dispensation, infusion, and monitoring. Meticulous therapy and service capture systems are utilized at Healix.
